The people I help…

Children and adolescents

I love working with children ages 4 and up, using art, play and nature to engage them and teach them skills to improve their current mental health and future well being. I meet your child where they are, connect with them to build a trusting relationship, then support and guide them through therapy to help them heal and grow.

Adults

Life is hard. You find yourself snapping at people you love because you’re stressed, can’t fall asleep at night with your mind racing, or cannot find a way to cope with a problem. I can teach you techniques and help you work through the big (and not-so-small) issues causing you so much anxiety.

families

While my work with your child involves teaching them skills and providing a safe space for them to work through issues, it also involves education and support for parents and families. I look forward to helping you support your child’s therapeutic journey!

…and the ways I help.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

This is a technique that helps the brain process stuff. That stuff could be a specific event (like a car accident) or a phobia (like spiders, public speaking or heights) or a daily struggle (difficulty with motivation, avoidance of conflict, etc). The beautiful part is that it is not necessary to share the issue with me, if you are not comfortable with it. We use eye movements, or tactile sensations (small devices that buzz gently in your hands), to support the brain in handling the problems, so you can move forward with your life WITHOUT the stuff.

Sandtray, Art, nature and Play

Play is one of the first ways we learn as children. I utilize play often to help kids and teens engage, understand and learn in a way that doesn’t feel threatening, overwhelming or scary.

Art is a beautiful method of processing emotions and situations that doesn’t require language.

Sandtray is a unique approach to therapy. Children and adults alike find it easier to express feelings, solve their own problems, and process their anxiety without ever needing to find the words to match.

Nature has countless benefits to mental health. Simply being in a natural setting can help relieve stress and anxiety. We can incorporate nature into any session, or take your sessions directly out into nature!

Sometimes, there simply are no words to describe what we need to express. Play, art, nature and sandtray offer ways to work through those issues without the pressure of talking about it.

EFT (“tapping” or Emotional Freedom Technique)

Tapping is a technique that utilizes meridian points like acupuncture does, but with the goal of helping the body and mind work through problems. I use tapping in sessions to help facilitate healing and reduce anxiety, and teach my clients how to use it for themselves outside of sessions.

Check out some basic information on tapping here, or contact me to see how effective it is firsthand.

Your sessions, your way.

Virtual Therapy

Life can be chaotic, even in the best of times. Sometimes, it’s just hard to balance all the parts of your life. Virtual therapy makes that easier. As long as you are somewhere in the state of Maryland, we can set up an appointment where we meet virtually. This adds flexibility to your schedule where you didn’t know you had it! Let’s talk to see if virtual therapy is an option for you!

In Person Sessions

While we are still adjusting to the changes in different parts of our lives, the distance from other people has been difficult. I am offering in person sessions in the office, depending on you or your child’s unique situation. Let’s have a conversation to see if in person sessions are the right fit for you.

Walk & Talk

All the benefits of an in person session, PLUS the added benefits of a beautiful walking path without being limited by an office setting! During a Walk & Talk session, we meet at my office, then head outside. We can walk the pathways through the neighborhood, or simply sit in a peaceful, outdoor setting while working on your goals. Walking side by side also helps some teens, kids and adults feel more comfortable since it’s not directly face to face. If you’re interested, let me know!
